It was a heart-wrenching moment when I realized I had missed my daughter’s first step while I was at the office, caught up in work. The regret of missing such a significant milestone for my little one was a stark reminder of our sacrifices for our jobs. This personal experience underscores the importance of remote work in balancing personal and professional life.

Before working remotely, I spent 8–10 hours daily in the office, plus 3 hours commuting. I would leave home at 7:00 a.m. and return at 8:00 p.m. When I arrived at the office, I was exhausted. The time I lost would never come back. I was overweight because I was eating out almost every day. I was very stressed out because I did not sleep properly, as I had to wake up at 6:00 a.m.
Arriving home at 8:00 p.m., I barely had time to prepare dinner and go to bed. I forgot about social activities. I was very burned out.

Since transitioning to remote work in 2020, I’ve experienced a profound sense of liberation from the daily grind. The freedom from the daily commute and the ability to manage my time more effectively have been game changers, allowing me to reclaim precious hours and focus on what truly matters.
Remote work offers a wide range of profound benefits that have the potential to transform your life and the lives of your employees.
According to a 2019 Harvard University research, having a job that lets you work remotely benefits the employee’s well-being. The data and the research emphasize my experiences with remote work.
1- Flexibility and Balance
One of the most significant benefits of remote work is its empowering nature. Working from home has allowed me to take control of my schedule, fitting work around my personal life. This empowerment mainly benefits parents, caregivers, and students juggling multiple responsibilities. It also means that I can attend to personal matters without the pressure of rigid office hours, leading to a healthier work-life balance. Since working from home, I have always met my kids’ milestones, feeling more in control and balanced than ever before.
2- Reduced Commute Stress.
Commuting to and from work can often be a significant source of stress and anxiety for many individuals. Long hours spent sitting in traffic or crowded public transportation can affect mental and physical well-being. Fortunately, by embracing remote work options, employees can eliminate the daily commute from their routines, saving precious time and minimizing the stress associated with traveling to and from the workplace.

Not having to commute can save precious extra time and be channeled into various activities contributing to overall well-being. Employees can use this newfound time to exercise, pursue hobbies, or dedicate quality time with loved ones and family members. Employees can enhance their work-life balance by eliminating the stressful daily commute and enjoying a healthier lifestyle.
3- Cost Savings.
Having a job remotely has numerous financial benefits for employees. Working from home eliminates commuting costs, including fuel, parking, and public transit fees. Furthermore, working from home saves employees on work attire, lunches, and coffee breaks. These collective savings can significantly contribute to an individual’s financial well-being, lowering anxiety about money and providing a greater sense of security. This newfound financial stability can positively impact an employee’s overall quality of life and reduce financial stress.
4- Making Healthier Lifestyle Choices.
Remote work offers numerous opportunities to support a healthier lifestyle. With the freedom to work from home, employees can prepare and enjoy nutritious, home-cooked meals, contributing to better dietary choices. Furthermore, the employee can use the time saved from commuting to engage in physical activities such as walking, jogging, practicing yoga, or hitting the gym, leading to better physical health and increased energy levels. For example, I take advantage of the time I save from commuting to incorporate exercise into my morning routine and ensure a wholesome breakfast, setting a positive tone for the day.
5- Improved Mental Health.
The remote work environment can significantly reduce stress and anxiety levels. The comfort of being in a familiar environment can provide emotional and psychological safety. For many, the ability to control their workspace and create a personalized, relaxing environment leads to increased mental well-being. Furthermore, the flexibility to take breaks when needed without the scrutiny of co-workers can help in managing mental health better.
However, it’s essential to acknowledge that remote work has its challenges. Loneliness and the lack of in-person team collaboration can be concerns. However, the employee can mitigate these challenges with proper support and strategies.
