I have successfully coached many professionals, helping them secure positions at companies like Facebook, Amazon, Sonos, Inc., Coinbase, and more. I am here to help you master the job search process and land your dream job, just as many of my customers have done!

1. Never Stop Networking; it is the key to many business and career opportunities.

The traditional way of finding a job is more difficult right now. You have fewer chances of landing your dream job if you do not have a network to support you. LinkedIn is by far the best professional network for finding your dream job.

Connect with people, engage, and collaborate with them. LinkedIn has many tools that can help you do this successfully and confidentially if you do not want to do it publicly.

2. Read Your Dream Job Description.

Reading the job description may seem obvious, but you must understand the requirements for your dream role. Make a list of the skills you have and the skills you lack. For the specific skills you lack, look for ways to improve that—for example, an online course, a certification, etc.

3. Consulting Firms and Startups Are An Amazing Way To Gain Tech Experience.

Work experience in the tech industry is highly sought after, so it is crucial to find opportunities that allow you to gain such experience. Startups and consulting firms offer an excellent chance to develop skills that are in high demand in today's job market.

4. Brand Yourself For Your Dream Job.

In the real world, just doing good work may not be enough to succeed. You need to build your personal brand and make yourself stand out from your competition. This means showing your unique qualities and demonstrating to potential employers that you are the ideal candidate for the job. It's important to speak their language and show them why you are the best choice.

Craft your brand and your story around this profile; This involves but is not limited to your resume and LinkedIn profile, i.e., present yourself as the ideal candidate by saying that you have all of the traits and qualities of a perfect candidate.

5. Prepare For Technical Interviews.

Your technical/functional experience within the job function is essential.

Coding interviews are challenging but are just part of the process. Don't panic; prepare. There are many online resources to practice. Find a partner, hire a coach, or sign up for a technical preparation workshop, but be ready to ace coding, algorithm, and system design interview questions.

6. Prepare For Behavioral Interviews.

You will get many "tell me about a time..." questions. Tech companies are data and metric-driven companies, and you should focus on the question to ensure your answer is relatable and to the point. I suggest that you stick to the STAR Method. The STAR method is a very structured response to a behavioral-based interview question. Try to discuss the specific situation, task, action, and result of the problem you describe.

Situation: Describe the problem you were experiencing for that particular matter, be very specific! You must describe a specific event or situation, not a generalized description of what you have done in the past. Be sure to give enough details for the interviewer to understand. This situation can be from a previous job, internship, school project, volunteer experience, or a relevant event. I highly recommend you to think about the projects that are more relevant to the job you are applying for.

Task: What is the goal or objective? What were you trying to accomplish?

Action:

  1. Describe the steps you took to resolve the problem or situation with appropriate detail and focus on yourself.

  2. Try to think that you are telling the story to a five-year-old kid.

  3. When describing actions, use "I," not "we."

Result: What was the outcome? Describe the impact of your actions, and please stress out your accomplishments. Think of how much money, time, or resources you helped this company or team save. What did you accomplish? Make sure your answer contains multiple positive outcomes.

7. Work On Building Your Confidence.

You are a great professional, and your value does not depend on the outcome of an interview. Your worth never changes, and the company that values your worth will hire you. All you need is one "YES." Don't settle until you get it.

8. Accept Failure And Learn From The Job Search Experience.

Applying the Growth Mindset is crucial while looking for a job, especially in Tech.

  • Learn From Failures. Apply Lessons Learned.

  • Take Growth-Oriented Challenges

  • Make a List of Things you have Improved already.

9. You Must Be in the Right Mindset to Land Your Dream Job.

You can apply to jobs where you don't meet 100% of the required skills. Show a Desire to Learn!

  1. Be Flexible, Learn New Things, and look for ways to keep learning while looking for a job!

  2. Improve Yourself:

  • What is your weakness? Look for a way to improve them to show that during a job interview.

  • Believe You Can

  • See yourself succeeding. Imagine yourself getting your dream job!

If you don't believe in yourself, no one will believe in you.

10. Be prepared. Do your research About Your Dream Companies.

Be ready to answer the question: "Why do you want to work here?".

You must research the company you would like to work for. You must make sure this is the place where you see yourself succeeding and delivering value. The work environment must be friendly.
